Everyday or Formal Twisty Bun How-To

Last evening we had a great consultation for a July bride, Soupy. Together we came up with the perfect style for her wedding hair - an off-center twisty bun.

I have seen a similar style in many bridal magazines and books for 2009, but this was my first time achieving it. We were both very pleased with the results!

To achieve an every-day version of this style, part the hair on the right, sweep the bangs across the forehead, and gather all the hair into a loose ponytail at the nape of the neck just behind the left ear. Twist or braid the ponytail loosly and wind the ponytail around itself into a bun. Secure with pins.

Add flowers or rhinestone pins for an evening or formal look!

Mascara Madness!

Luscious Lashes

Here is a new and amazing technique for applying mascara which I learned last night on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, with special guest Tyson Beckford (so hot). The episode was "Erica" and may be available online. The makeup artist on the show was from Stila.

Here's how to get this look:
1) Take an eyeliner brush, lip brush, or other flat edged brush.
2) coat the brush with mascara by running your mascara wand over the brush.
3) Paint the mascara on your bottom lashes with the brush, barely brushing the root of the lashes, to create a dramatic semi-lined effect.
4) Repeat on top lashes.
5) Go over top lashes with mascara wand (both sides of lashes) from root to tip several times to complete the look. My favorite mascara brands are: Dior (show) and Cover Girl (the fat orange one) or the middle-school staple Mabelline (the pink one).
